We're pleased to announce our limited-run newsletter — AFTER SCHOOL — which will provide nightly updates on the San Francisco teachers' strike.
We at Bay Area Current think that this strike is the most important event in SF and deserves to be covered as such. We’ve done our research, and unlike some other billionaire-backed news outlets, we aren’t convinced by the elite shedding tears over educators’ demands to save public education.
DAY 1 STRIKE UPDATES ☻
- SFUSD educator Eugene Violet explains the strike's true political implications: a fight for students and against the billionaire class.
- San Francisco special education teachers tell us why they’re striking.
- Strikers said that SFUSD management is attempting to send out an "order to report" for educators to work at "hub" sites — but workers aren't heeding the call because "we're on strike." Nice try!
- As for Day 1 at the picket lines, one striker gave us this scene report:
"Picket's very energetic and upbeat. A lot of teachers from different schools spread out into the neighborhood afterward, and we’re talking about the action. There is a lot of growing discomfort with people like Lurie weighing in.
- Union calls MASS RALLY at Dolores Park tomorrow at 12PM.
TODAY'S LOSERS AND HATERS
- SF Chronicle's op-ed hit piece — written by "executive director" of the astro-turf SF Parent Coalition Meredith Dodson — that aims to pit parents against teachers has aged like garbage.
